Starkville Unity Park

Unity Park, located on Douglas L. Conner Drive, was inspired by citizens who wanted to honor those who soldiered for civil rights in Oktibbeha County and the state of Mississippi.

Mission Statement

The Unity Park was created to honor those people who have contributed to Civil Rights and
Unity in Oktibbeha County in previous years and years to come. It provides a positive place of
civic pride where all people, regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, or sexual orientation, can
come together to celebrate peace, harmony and unity in our community.

About the Park

Learn about Starkville’s own tribute to those who fought to improve civil rights. Efforts are being made to help further civil rights and unity for years to come.

The Exhibits

See the plaques which honor those who affected civil rights in Oktibbeha County and Mississippi. Among the seletced honorees were Dr. Douglas L. Conner, Martin Luther King, Jr., Gov. William Winter, Medgar Evers, and
Fannie Lou Hamer.

Nominate an Honoree

Nominate someone who has contributed to civil rights in Oktibbeha County. Selected honorees will be announced in a ceremony on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, January 15, 2018.
